Hiring a professional to come and replace your windows for you is an excellent idea. However, you must be well-prepared. Thankfully, there are certain things that you can do to prepare and some of those things will be discussed here.

Tips to Prepare Your Home for Window Replacement & Installation

Keep the process running smoothly with these tips:

Clear The Area

One of the first things that you want to do to prepare for window replacement is to clear the areas around the windows- both interior and external areas.

Inside: Remove furniture, plants, tables, etc.

Outside: remove any hoses, equipment, furniture, vehicles, etc.

This gives one a clear space to work.

Trim Nearby Landscaping (if needed)

Trees, bushes, and shrubbery along the side of your home can restrict the space needed by the installation crew to work let alone reach the exterior of the window. Because various window styles require different amounts of workspace, check with your window installer for specific space needs.

Remove Window Coverings

Next, remove all window coverings, such as blinds, curtains, curtain rods (if necessary), and various other window treatments. Not only is it easier to complete the installation, but it, more importantly, prevents any damage from occurring to your window coverings during the removal and installation process.

Deactivate Any Alarms

You may think your security system is deactivated, but one should always double-check. Some home security systems may require you to manually disconnect each alarm from the windows about to be replaced, but don't worry! Your security company most likely has technicians available to come to your home and complete this step for you.

Protect Your Furniture

It is also important to protect any furniture that may remain in the same room as your window. You can use large sheets of plastic to cover your furniture. This plastic is easy to find and is made to be very affordable. This plastic protects your furniture from the dust and other debris that will be in the air when the windows are being removed and installed.

Make Plans to Be Out of The Way

Lastly, you want to make plans to stay out of the way. This means that you want to have pets put away and make sure that you and your children are either out of the home or in an area away from where the windows are being installed. By doing this, you are allowing the professional to fully focus on the task at hand while keeping your children and other animals safe.

Professional Window Installation

Preparing for window replacement ensures that you have a good experience and that the professional installing your windows can do it in the quickest and most efficient manner possible.
